For Connell Cornelius, attending the University of North Alabama wasn’t just a choice — it was a legacy. As a third-generation UNA student, Connell came to campus with strong roots and high expectations. Whether performing on stage at Step Sing, on the football field as part of Marching Pride of North Alabama, or collaborating with classmates and faculty, he found opportunities to expand his skills and confidence in ways he never anticipated. “If I hadn’t come to UNA,” he says, “I don’t think I’d be the person I am today.” His journey speaks to the unique environment UNA cultivates—one that encourages every student to push their boundaries and discover new strengths.
But for Connell, it’s not just the academics or the performances that make UNA stand out—it’s the community. “Everyone supports each other, and that includes the administration,” he notes. This deep sense of connection and mutual encouragement has been a cornerstone of his experience. Looking ahead, Connell has big dreams. He plans to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts and hopes to one day teach at the university level. His time at UNA has laid a strong foundation for that future, equipping him not just with knowledge, but with purpose and direction. Inspired by the mentors and friends he’s found along the way, Connell is ready to take the stage as both a performer and an educator.
