For BP Blair, choosing the University of North Alabama was more than just a college decision—it was a family tradition and a perfect fit. Growing up in Red Bay, Alabama, Blair was drawn to UNA’s close-knit community, beautiful campus, and welcoming atmosphere. “It was really just a no-brainer for me,” he said. “My mom graduated from here, and it’s just far enough from home to feel independent, but close enough to family whenever I wanted to go back. It’s also just a beautiful campus and a place where I felt at home.”
Though he started college unsure of his path, Blair’s journey took shape once he discovered his passion for science—specifically chemistry. Inspired by his aunt, a UNA alum and science teacher, Blair found his calling in the classroom. “Stepping into my first education and chemistry classes, I realized this is exactly what I want to do,” he said. “Chemistry just makes sense to me—it’s logical, it’s real, it’s life.” The support he’s received from UNA faculty has only strengthened his commitment. “Every [professor] I’ve had has wanted me to succeed,” he added. “They’ve written me letters of recommendation to helped me join specific club events… and different organizations on campus, and they’ve always been wiling to help. That kind of support makes all the difference.”
As a secondary education major focusing on physics and general science, Blair’s goal is clear: to become the kind of teacher who inspires curiosity and confidence in his students. “I might not be the person who solves the world’s biggest chemistry problems,” he said, “but I can help build up the people who might.” Whether through his involvement in the LaGrange Society or his dedication to his studies, Blair’s enthusiasm for UNA shines through. “This place is special,” he said. “It’s peaceful, it’s home, and it’s full of opportunity. I’d tell anyone—if you want to find a place where you belong and can truly succeed, UNA is the place to be.”
