When Zacchaeus Hampton considered attending the University of North Alabama (UNA)—something that would take him from his hometown of Madison to Florence—he recognized it was an important decision that would greatly impact his life. The campus’ friendly and supportive community drew him in from the start. And, ultimately, this is what confirmed his choice to call UNA his home for the next four years.
“There were many different factors that drew me to UNA,” Zacchaeus explains. “But what really drew me in was not only the opportunity to further my education but also the strong sense of community as well.”
That sense of community didn’t just draw him to UNA—it’s also part of what kept him here. The rich culture of UNA made it easy to establish relationships with fellow students and faculty alike. This is what Zacchaeus says made his time at the university “so memorable and impactful.”
Education wise, this UNA alumnus couldn’t be happier with his degree of choice: mass communication with a concentration in journalism and digital media production. Zacchaeus chose this route with the goal of becoming a podcast producer. That said, he hasn’t ruled out being the one in front of the mic as well! In fact, he left the university with an interest in being a full-time podcaster who also assists others with their platform needs.
Thankfully, the support of award-winning faculty and advisors left Zacchaeus feeling confident in his future, no matter the path he ends up pursuing. Part of this confidence also stems from the value in his communication degree. UNA’s communication department offers students more than just a basic foundation for their careers; on the contrary, students gain access to the knowledge and experience needed to thrive.
“UNA [has prepared] me in a variety of ways to become successful in my future endeavors through professionalism, inclusion, and authenticity,” Zacchaeus says.
As a UNA alumnus, Zacchaeus couldn’t be more thrilled for what the future has in store for incoming freshman. When you have supportive advisors and faculty who “propel and push you to your greatest potential,” anything is possible.
That’s why Zacchaeus has one thing to say to those who are on the verge of committing to UNA: “[You] are making a great decision—UNA is the place to be!”
