Sydney Stafford, a Secondary Education History major from Huntsville, Alabama, began her UNA journey early—literally. Inspired by her older brother, who was already a student at UNA, Sydney enrolled in the university’s Early College program to get a head start on her degree. “I wanted to get college credit and experience before graduating high school,” she shared. “The UNA Early College program was offering a promotional deal, which made my class [cost] less than a local community college.”

That decision proved pivotal. “My experience set me up for success,” Sydney said. “I could relax going into my freshman year on campus because I knew what was expected of me and that I did not have to rush my college experience because I was ahead of schedule.”

Now a sophomore and projected to graduate in May 2026, Sydney has fully embraced campus life. She’s a member of the LaGrange Society (where she serves as one of many campus tour guides for potential students and assists with recruitment events), the Cole Honors College (where she also mentors fellow honors students), Alpha Delta Pi (where she serves as a Philanthropy Officer), and the Phi Alpha Theta honor society.

UNA has also provided Sydney with opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. This past summer, she participated in a study abroad program in Scotland through the UNA History Department—an experience designed to broaden her global perspective and enhance her understanding of world history.

The University’s supportive environment, robust academic resources, and emphasis on experiential learning have played a key role in Sydney’s success. From early college coursework to campus involvement and international travel, UNA has empowered her to grow academically and personally.

Sydney’s ongoing story is a testament to the lasting value of getting a head start through UNA’s Early College program. The assurance, preparation, and opportunities she gained early on have shaped every step of her college experience so far. Her message for high school students considering dual enrollment at UNA is clear: “Do it! It gave me so much confidence coming into college, and I am so grateful for that.”
